Security CCTV stuff
anyone have any knowledge on this- I bought a Swann NVR setup with four 1080 cameras for home a couple of years ago and its been great until it died suddenly two weeks ago.

Seems the hard disk has died /wont start and checking sites /youtube it appears to be a regular occurence- tried to get it fixed locally however no luck- so I want to buy a new recorder dick unit- cant get one anywhere they only seem to want to sell it with new cameras and like £400...its a fucking ponzi/scam scam i reckon!

yes i have tried to wife my knob etc etc

anyone any experience/ideas?

cheers

Have you tried wiping your knob on the lense?

Could you not open up the recorder and replace the Hard Drive?

Re: Security CCTV stuff
what mallard said.
If you are sure it's the hard drive there will be details on the drive and are simple
To change, get one that’s the same spec and your up and running again.

Got to be an easier way to get a look at the wife's chuff. I mean, if she lets you wipe your knob on her...

PS/ She lets me do that to her too.

Re: Security CCTV stuff
Most of the units have the OS and software builtin and the drive is only used for recording.

Mine came without a hard drive and I just bought one off of amazon

However, if it has completely died then I suspect it's not the hard drive

Is it dead, dead or can you ssh into it from another computer?

Does it power up?

Can it write to an SD card or external drive?

Re: Security CCTV stuff
it does nothin, nada, power to the unit but never spins up and gets going- the logon sequence /GUI phase to it therefore never happens

Check the SATA connection

Re: Security CCTV stuff
Can you plug a keyboard into the USB port and a monitor/TV into the HDMI port then try whacking the keyboard's "F2" key as it's powering up?

With luck the system BIOS screen will appear and you will be able to see if it detects the hard drive.

If it doesn't see the drive then you need to open the unit and follow Far Cough's advice.

If you can't/don't want to open up the unit, then a "patch/work-around" would be to get the O/S on a USB thumb drive and point the BIOS to boot up from that. I assume that you will be able then to save images to the USB drive but you won't get much on a dongle, so a spare USB drive (at least 1TB) in the other port for images would be my suggestion.

Anything that "saddens" you is, by definition, a very good thing indeed.

You can admit you didn't understand a word - *does veinites* - you won't get pulled up on it.

It's sad, Mike, because it reminds me of an old pensioner trying to remember how to use her TV.

You clueless old wally.

It's fun for me, vexy-wexy.

Keep it up - the kids need a clown to keep them amused during the school holidays. Nice of you to volunteer; very social-minded of you.
